A unique journey through some of the most fascinating areas of Africa, in support of Doctors with Africa CUAMM’s international cooperation projects. Nine days and 1,500 km on- and off-road, visiting a wild, kind and compassionate land. We’ll skirt Lake Victoria and cross the Murchison Falls and Lake Mburo National Parks, to admire the savanna’s natural wildlife. Alongside the healthcare professionals from Doctors with Africa CUAMM, we’ll visit the Aber Hospital and visit some of the villages benefiting from the projects supported by Dainese Expedition Master Uganda fundraising. The entire participation fee will be donated to the Doctors with Africa CUAMM project. The Italian non-governmental organization has been working for 75 years to support healthcare for local people in some of the most critical areas of Central Africa. The In Moto con L’Africa project was born at the beginning of 2020 with the aim of raising awareness among riders and raising funds for transporting healthcare professionals in the areas where CUAMM operates, where motorbike ambulances are often the only vehicle that can actually reach the most isolated villages in time to help. Motorbike ambulances are essential for delivering medicines and vaccines and transporting new mothers to health facilities, reducing the infant mortality rate by 40%. You can contribute to the project supported by Dainese Expedition Master Uganda, even without participating, by making a donation to Doctors with Africa CUAMM. Tour difficulty: Off road difficulty:
Arrival at Kampala airport and transfer to the hotel. You can’t embark on a trip to Uganda without immersing yourself in the fantastic experience of it’s capital’s wonderful humanity, due to its culture, delicious cuisine and the warmth of its hospitality. In the afternoon, a visit to the CUAMM coordination facility in Uganda, bike collection and arranging various formalities. Followed by briefing and presentation of the tour.
300km After the briefing with the guides, we set off for the northwest. It’s a long stage, which will allow us to become familiar with the motorcycles and the Ugandan roads, and there’s also the thrilling walking safari among the rhinos of the Rhino Sanctuary. In Aber, the schedule includes a brief visit to the hospital where Doctors with Africa CUAMM operates and dinner with the doctors and volunteers of the great Italian organization, an evocative, touching experience.
230km We set off with the CUAMM staff to visit various villages and observe the activities that Doctors with Africa carries out in those areas. In the afternoon we reach Murchison Falls National Park, home to an abundance of wildlife, with elephants, lions, crocodiles, giraffes, hippos and many species of birds. A wonderful motorbike and 4x4 tour is planned in the most beautiful part of the park, towards the Nile River, where we’ll head upstream to the falls by boat. Dinner and overnight stay in a camp with facilities, very appealing inside the park.
160km Our journey continues on the typical “red trails”, the dusty dirt roads that lead us to Hoima and pass alongside Lake Albert, immersing ourselves in the immense African landscapes. There are many villages along the way where you can admire the local communities and their rural markets. Finally, Hoima welcomes us with its rural and architectural charm, a fascinating portrait of Ugandan life.
220km Moving away from Hoima, the road enters an increasingly green and lush landscape, with cultivated fields and tea plantations. We cross the Crater Lakes region, where we can admire the imposing Ruwenzori Mountains and finally arrive in the Kibale Forest, famous for its dense tree cover and variety of animal species. You can take a short trek into the rainforest.
210km As you approach Mburo National Park, the scenery changes, giving way to open plains and savannas where you can spot wild animals. The road winds through the park with the stunning volcanic Lake Mburo, offering the chance to spot hippos, crocodiles and a wide variety of birds, helping to create a unique safari experience.
130km A special, exciting day – crossing the equator, marked by an evocative sign where photos are of course de rigueur. It’s an adventurous journey, since the road conditions, alternating between paved and dirt stretches, can vary over time. The day ends at Lake Nabugabo, where we’ll sleep in a smart resort overlooking the shores of the lake. The area is populated by hippos and a wide variety of really colorful birds.
140km Last stop is transfer to Kampala along the immense Lake Victoria, so vast that it seems a sea. It’s surrounded by local communities that depend on the lake’s resources for fishing and other activities.
Departure on scheduled flight and return.
